The Psychology programme at IMU provides students with a unique combination of academic knowledge and professional skills based on leading international research and best practice to prepare students at an optimal level for their future careers.
A Psychology degree from IMU is the essential step towards a career in the applied fields of psychology, such as clinical, health, organisational, and counselling psychology, or into any one of the diverse range of related career pathways available
Ivana Tiffany Berenai Mason’s interest in a career as a clinical psychologist started when she was researching about the anxieties that she was going through, where to get help and how to reduce the anxieties.
My early observation and interaction with different people formed a general impression that those fields are highly regarded in a society with a clearer job pathway and which would allow one to live in comfort.
A belief that the job opportunities in the psychology field are much broader and advanced in the USA led Alicia Wong to apply for a few schools in USA for postgraduate studies after the completion of her psychology degree at IMU. On top of this, most of the researchers that she wanted to work with at that time were based in the USA.
Chan Kay Lynn joined the IMU in 2011 and studied the first three years of her psychology degree at the University. She then transferred to University of Newcastle (UoN), Australia in July 2014 to obtain her degree in psychology from the University, the first student to enter this pathway. She recalls fondly of her experience studying in these two universities.
Psychology alumnus, Riithraiyeini V Veerappa completed her degree in Psychology from IMU in October 2015. Upon completion of her degree, she immediately got a job and is currently working at Shichida Method Sdn Bhd as a Specialised Training Instructor.
The academic experience within IMU has changed me tremendously. During my high school I used to be very passive student. However my educational experience in IMU has changed me into a confident professional. IMU places strong emphasis on optimal educational achievement. It also provides ample opportunities for students to gain various other skills (eg inter-personal skills, leadership skills, community outreach skills) through extra- curricular activity participation.
I am grateful to my lecturers at IMU who have nurtured the students by giving them the exposure that they needed in order to progress in the field. I feel that I would not have been able to excel further without this guidance and teaching from my IMU lecturers. Their lessons were practical, interesting and fun. Occasionally, when I reflect on the time I had at IMU, I would miss the times that I had there as a student.
I am fortunate to have received an undergraduate education from IMU. Throughout my three years in IMU, I have certainly built long-lasting relationships with my peers and lecturers as well as a strong foundation of knowledge in Psychology. Further, the robust curriculum of the IMU Psychology programme offers an all-rounded exposure to all areas of Psychology, from human personality to group dynamics and statistical research.
