IMU MEDICINE PROGRAMME

The path towards becoming a doctor is long and challenging but one that sees no shortage of takers. It is a selfless calling, dedicated to the service of others and yet, is one of the most personally fulfilling career options to embark on.

To take up medicine, you need good grades coupled with total commitment to stay on the course. Hence, it is important that the decision to be a doctor is yours, not your parents’ or anyone else’s.

The IMU Medical programme focuses on Medical Sciences for the first 2.5 years. Students then proceed to undertake Clinical Training either at IMU’s Clinical Campuses in the southern part of Malaysia or at a Partner Medical School (PMS) overseas.

IMU’s curriculum emphasizes clinical application of basic science from an early stage. IMU is the first to incorporate the USMLE Step 1 Preparatory Course into the IMU medical curriculum across Semesters 1 to 5. This is to allow IMU medical graduates to begin early preparation to sit for USMLE Step 1 examination that opens the door towards United States residency opportunities.

At IMU, clinical electives are an important part of undergraduate medical training in order to enhance learning experience. Students of its medical programme can choose to do their clinical electives in selected hospitals in the USA and enhance their learning experience in a different healthcare system.

Hear What Some Of Our Alumni Say

IMU had certainly provided me with a strong foundation. The knowledge I had gained in IMU had made the transition to my clinical years easier. More importantly, in IMU I had learnt a lot through the co-curricular activities I was involved in and the people I had met. This helped me grow as a person and build my confidence to carry on even after leaving the country.
Dairshini Sithambaram
I can’t stop praising how adequately IMU has prepared us for the clinical phase overseas. Even in our first semester, the emphasis on clinical skills right after orientation week prepares us for learning in the wards.
David Tang Chu Yik
My 2 years in IMU Seremban were special to me. The presence of supportive seniors, a collegial environment and great lecturers helped cement my clinical years as outstanding years in my career. I feel that the strong grounding in medicine and independent learning that I gained while studying in IMU was instrumental to the success of my career in the US.
