Postgraduate research forms a major and expanding part of the IMU’s academic development. Working for a research degree gives students the opportunity to develop an in-depth knowledge of a discipline and to become familiar with current techniques and methodologies.
The University prides itself on the facilities and support it provides to research students and on the calibre and dedication of its academic, clinical and technical staff. IMU researchers produced 308 publications in 2019, of which 81% were in Tier 1 and 2. The total H index was 67.
The University allocates more than RM1 million internal funds for research every year. Alongside this commitment, external funding has increased dramatically from funding bodies such as Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE) and Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI) in recent years. Our researchers have received funding for collaborative research projects in nasopharyngeal carcinoma, colorectal carcinoma, breast cancer, infectious diseases and environmental health.
